Dunnavant Valley Greenway

The Dunnavant Valley Greenway, which has a natural surface, spans approximately 1.9 miles along the North Fork of Yellow Leaf Creek between the Dunnavant Valley Fields Trailhead and the Hwy 41 Trailhead. The Dunnavant Valley Fields Trailhead (southern trailhead) is located within the soccer field complex. After exiting Highway 280, continue past the 280 Shelby County Services Building (19220 Highway 280 East, Birmingham, AL 35242).

Veteran’s Park Trail on Valleydale

The Veterans Park on Valleydale trail is approximately 3.1 miles in length and is easily accessible from nearby schools, Jefferson State Community College and large residential developments. The course consisting of both a soft gravel mixture and hard surface serves as host to numerous local, regional and national cross country events with a 5k and 8K course. The Great American Cross Country Race brings top runners from across the country to compete on the course.

Black Creek Mountain Bike Park, which opened in June 2019, is a Hoover city park built with mountain biking in mind. The 73 acre park straddles the boundary of Jefferson and Shelby Counties adjacent to the Lake Wilborn community just south of the Hoover Met Complex.

The Buck Creek Greenway trail contains approximately 3 miles of walking and biking paths with a 1.5 mile linear main trail. It connects two major parks: Buck Creek Park and Warrior Park. There are three trail heads to access the nature trail.

Columbiana Community Trail

The Columbiana Community Trail is behind the ¼ mile walking track at Elvin Hill Elementary School on fenced-in Shelby County Schools property. The single loop length of the trail which serpentines through wooded and hilly terrain is 1.48 miles. The trail serves as the Shelby County High School Cross Country (XC) Course. The trail is for daylight use only and open to the public when not in school use. The project was accomplished through a joint effort of Shelby County Schools, the Shelby County Commission, and the City of Columbiana. No restrooms are found onsite.

Heardmont Park Trail

The Heardmont Park walking trail is approximately one mile in length with other links that help to intra-connect the 74-acre family recreational park. The creek side walking trail is lighted and follows along the scenic Cahaba Valley Creek, and is handicap accessible. The trail, which also has serves as the host course for local high school cross country meets, meanders throughout the facility. In addition to play meadows and a children’s playground, the park features nine baseball fields, three soccer fields and two tennis courts. The athletic facilities have hosted numerous regional and national youth sporting events.

The Hillsboro Trail currently contains approximately two miles of multi-use trail that connects residential communities, schools, and commercial areas. The trail is paved and constructed on an old rail bed with four tunnels and bridges making it ideal for walking, jogging and cycling.

Veterans Park Alabaster Trail on Highway 119

The Veterans Park Alabaster trail covers approximately 2 miles and is located within a 90-acre park facility. The trail is lighted and is a paved surface that is handicap accessible. Several pavilions and benches are located throughout the course of the trail. The Park features five youth baseball/softball fields; several play meadows, two ponds, an arbor and a bluebird trail. The park also includes a self contained regulation skate park.
